Ah.. we woke up in our honeymoon sleep after much too short of a night.
Once we were on the road, we were driving through Kansas. Of all you’ve every heard about Kansas.. it is probably true. It was flat and there is not much variation. Everything we looked up in the info books told us about things that used to be: the Santa Fe Trail, cowboys, wagon trains, saloons, trading posts, military posts. Very quickly I ascertained that Kansas is the state that was .. not that is!
We had researched a fabulous German Mennonite restaurant, and thought it would be for a perfect for a late lunch. It no longer existed (ibid). So off we went in search option #2. It was great and I’ve described it in detail above.
We now seriously headed toward Missouri. Kansas … or the lack thereof, was getting on our nerves. But surprise of surprises, Eastern Kansas was much different from western Kansas.. There was color and hills and the warm, humid summer weather enveloped me, reminiscent of when I was six, visiting Tallahassee, Florida.
My mother was born in Missouri; Faucett Mo. As we entered into the sate, the lush green and rolling landscape beckoned to something deep within. We are spending the night in Jefferson City ... who knew it was the capital?
Tomorrow we head into and through Missouri; our destination Ohio!
